💡 Concept：
I joined the official Olight Facebook community back in late 2019. At the time, I noticed there was a growing interest among O-Fans who wanted something more personal than a standard flashlight. That opened the door for me to begin offering custom laser engraving to members of the community.
What started with a few projects for customers in my home state of California gradually grew into something I never could have imagined. Before long, pieces I had engraved were traveling all across the United States, and eventually around the world—to Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, China, and beyond.
That experience changed the way I looked at engraving. I wasn’t simply putting artwork onto flashlights. I was helping turn an everyday tool into something personal—something connected to a person's identity, memories, family, profession, hometown, or story.
So when Olight later gave the community an opportunity to submit designs for its own personalized engraving program, I knew exactly where I wanted to start.
Olight has always had the goal of putting a flashlight into the hands of as many people as possible. In my own small way, my goal had become making as many of those flashlights as possible feel like their flashlight.
The state design grew directly from that idea.
Few things represent home and identity as simply and universally as the place we come from. Whether someone was born there, raised a family there, served there, moved away and still calls it home, or simply takes pride in where they live, a state can carry an incredible amount of meaning.
I combined that sense of home with the American flag because I wanted the design to feel proud, recognizable, and personal without being overly complicated. The concept was simple: 50 states, 50 identities, one community.
Seeing the design selected was already something I was incredibly proud of. Seeing O-Fans actually choose it for their lights made it much more meaningful.
For me, every one of those engravings represents another small piece of a journey that began years earlier with me sitting behind a laser trying to make somebody's flashlight a little more special.
I've watched the Olight community grow, participated in it, created for it, supported other members, and continued trying to contribute something worthwhile to it. My relationship with Olight has never just been about collecting flashlights or engraving products. It has been about the people behind them.
Some of my favorite projects over the years have been the ones where someone trusted me with an idea that meant something deeply personal to them and allowed me to turn it into something they could carry every day. Knowing that there are pieces of my work sitting in collections, pockets, toolboxes, homes, and workplaces across the United States and in countries around the world is something I take tremendous pride in.
And now, knowing that one of my designs became part of Olight's own personalization program means that a little piece of that journey continues even on lights I never personally engraved.
That is what this design means to me.
It represents home. It represents pride. It represents the Olight community. And, personally, it represents the journey from engraving a few lights for fellow O-Fans in California to having my work reach people around the world.
I've always believed that the best engraving does more than decorate an object—it gives that object a story.
